The Alliance for Equity in Higher Education was established in 1999 by IHEP as a first-of-its-kind partnership of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), and the National Association For Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO). The Alliance represents the shared interests of Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The institutions represented by AIHEC, HACU and NAFEO educate more than one-third of the nation’s students of color. A number of IHEP’s MSI efforts—including the Kellogg MSI Fellows program and the Building Engagement and Attainment for Minority Students (BEAMS) initiative—grew out of the work of the Alliance.
