Institute for Higher Education Policy Receives Prestigious Special Merit Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education

Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 18 2011—The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP), a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. and committed to promoting access to and success in higher education for all students, is being honored today at the Association for the Study of Higher Education’s (ASHE) 2011 Annual Conference. ASHE is presenting IHEP with its Special Merit Award, which recognizes a person, group, or organization for “offering a valuable perspective for studying and understanding colleges and universities.” IHEP President Michelle Asha Cooper, Ph.D., accepted the award.
For almost 20 years, IHEP has been a strong advocate on all matters related to access and success in postsecondary education. Even the organization’s vision—to help all people, particularly populations who have been underserved, have the opportunity to reach their full potential by participating and succeeding in higher education—is expressly reflected in its work through such publications as Portraits: Initial College Attendance of Low-Income Young Adults and Delinquency: The Untold Story of Student Loan Borrowing; strategic partnerships via the National Coalition for College Completion and the Pathways to College Network; and innovative programs that link IHEP’s work to institutional and policy leaders across the United States and around the world.
