Piper Hendricks, J.D.
Former Vice President of Communications and External AffairsPiper Hendricks is the Former Vice President of Communications & External Affairs at the Institute for Higher Education (IHEP). In this role, she leads IHEP’s strategic communications and advocacy efforts. Before joining IHEP, Piper enjoyed several years as the first Director of Advocacy Communications at Habitat for Humanity International and later joined the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) to head their global communications.
Piper began her career as a lawyer at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights before joining Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, & Jacobson LLP. Following a federal judicial clerkship, she worked for several years in international human rights litigation before trading in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure for filmmaking and founding p.h. balanced films, all while continuing her focus on advocacy communications.
Piper graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University and earned her Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Michigan. Piper volunteers with Insight on the Inside, an organization that facilitates meditation sessions in prisons and jails in the D.C. area. She also actively supports storytelling for impact, including as a volunteer with the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Story District, where she previously served on the board.
Piper appreciates the power of language and, in addition to working alongside diverse, dedicated, and driven colleagues at IHEP, is motivated by the opportunity to turn words into actions that close equity gaps in higher education and transform lives across the United States.
