Statewide accountability systems must find ways to incorporate the diverse missions and special challenges of community colleges. This paper points out that the way community colleges are handled in most statewide accountability systems is not likely to provide state policymakers with information necessary to identify options and make choices to meet higher education goals. Eight key states that have strong community college networks with an established or a developing statewide accountability system are analyzed.
