Documentation summarizing the proceedings of a conference held May 2-4, 1998 in Denver, Colo. that included nearly 100 student aid leaders and experts around the country

This document summarizes the proceedings of a conference held May 2-4, 1998 in Denver, Colo. The conference—sponsored by a coalition of Colorado colleges and universities—included nearly 100 student aid leaders and experts from around the country who were convened to discuss new approaches to delivering student assistance in a distance learning context. As distance learning grows as a vehicle for providing postsecondary education, it has also challenged the student aid system’s ability to provide timely and adequate financial aid to students. The report includes case studies developed for the two-day conference, summaries of the reports prepared by discussion groups that worked with the case studies, and other conference materials. It also includes a statement of principles for future policy development, formulated on the final day of the conference in a plenary session.
