Signs of Colleges on the Rise: What to Watch

Experts in the higher education realm point to some distinct attributes of colleges that are rising, as opposed to schools that are holding steady or declining. Mamie Voight, president and CEO of the Institute for Higher Education Policy, said delivering equity to Black, Latinx and/or Hispanic, Indigenous, underrepresented Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and students from low-income backgrounds fosters “economic mobility that benefits students, families, and society.”
Voight adds, “These colleges on the rise understand that institutional barriers contribute to inequitable postsecondary outcomes and use data to identify and remove systemic barriers to success.”
