Michael Tidwell
Research InternMichael Tidwell is a Research Intern at the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) supporting research projects on college admissions, data, and transparency.
Prior to joining IHEP, Michael contributed to several research teams at the University of Georgia, Clemson University, and the Clemson University Center for Workforce Development working on critical issues around graduate education, aviation maintenance technology education, and the potential impact of automated vehicles on the driving workforce.
Michael graduated Cum Laude from Valdosta State University in 2021 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies concentrating in sociology and public administration. He later earned an MS in Social Science from Clemson University. Currently, he is a second year PhD student at the University of Georgia’s Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education.
As a first-generation student, Michael understands firsthand the transformative power of higher education. This personal experience fuels his passion for connecting high-quality research to actionable policy to create more equitable pathways to and through higher education. His motivation is best captured by Dr. Louise McBee’s words: “We are born obligated to pour back into the stream that nourished us, to replenish it for others.”
Outside of work, Michael enjoys being outside in the sun, musical theater, reading, and all things aviation related.
