IHEP Comments on Higher Education Act Reauthorization

Published Feb 13, 2018

IHEP submitted comments to inform the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions’ (HELP) efforts to reauthorize the Higher Education Act (HEA). The letter responds to questions raised during the committee’s January 30, 2018 HEA hearing focused on accountability and risk to taxpayers, where Vice President for Policy Research Mamie Voight testified on behalf of IHEP.

The comments urge lawmakers to enact HEA reforms that preserve and strengthen Pell Grants, provide students, college leaders and policymakers with more complete information about higher education outcomes, and incentive institutions to prioritize access and completion for all students, especially low-income students.
