IHEP Urges Secretary DeVos to Support Greater Transparency in Higher Education

This week, the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) joined more than 40 other organizations including National Skills Coalition, New America, and Young Invincibles in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos urging her to enhance postsecondary education data quality and improve data transparency.
Data currently collected through the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and housed in College Navigator, the Federal Student Aid (FSA) Data Center and the College Scorecard help students, families and policymakers make important insights about federal student loan debt, repayment rates and post-college earnings.
The letter urges Secretary DeVos to continue updating the debt, repayment and earnings data for each institution that receives federal aid dollars so students have the information they need to make informed decisions about where to enroll. The signatories also encourage the Department to go further by publishing debt, repayment and earnings data for each program of study at an institution.
IHEP leads the Postsecondary Data Collaborative (PostsecData), a coalition of 36 organizations committed to the use of high-quality postsecondary data to improve student outcomes, particularly for low-income students and students of color.
