Launch of Online Global Higher Education Exchange

Washington, D.C., June 15, 2000—A new internet-based resource for higher education policymakers, analysts, institutional leaders, and others who influence policy was unveiled today, http://www.ghee.org. The website is jointly sponsored by two independent, non-profit organizations, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and The Institute for Higher Education Policy.
The Global Higher Education Exchange website focuses on three main activities: providing access to resources such as research, policy analysis, best practices and innovations, and articles on key policy areas; offering technical assistance to institutions and governments, based on the experiences and expertise of AED and The Institute; and hosting an annual conference that convenes policymakers, institutional leaders, and other interested parties from around the world.
Policy areas currently addressed by the Global Higher Education Exchange include higher education financing policy and its relationship to: quality assurance and accreditation; institutional and student finance; information technology; workforce development; and teacher training.
The site was developed in part based on feedback from attendees representing 22 countries who participated in the Global Higher Education Policy Conference held in Washington, DC last August. The site will complement and supplement future conferences, seminars, and symposia.
The Academy for Educational Development, founded in 1961, is an independent, non-profit service organization committed to solving critical social problems in the U.S. and throughout the world. Major areas of focus include health, education, youth development, and the environment.
The Institute for Higher Education Policy is a non-profit, non-partisan research and policy organization in Washington, DC. The Institute is an independent resource on critical issues in higher education, including financing, technology, quality, and developing institutions.
